Museum of Garden History

Introduction

Situated in South-East London, the Museum of Garden History was founded in 1977 to enhance understanding and appreciation of gardens, gardening, flowers and plants in general, with reference to European and worldwide influence. Its patron is HRH the Prince of Wales, and the museum building stands on the bank of the Thames, facing the Houses of Parliament and next to Lambeth Palace.

The museum's collections fall into three main categories: tools, ephemera and library. The ephemera collection and library include prints and plates of sketches and illustrations of all type of plants and flowers, black and white photographs of gardens and gardeners, seed wrappers, nostalgic advertisements and paintings galore, as well as bills, receipts, catalogues and brochures.
